How Facebook can Help Tradies Market Their Business – Part 2

How Facebook can Help Tradies Market Their Business - Part 2
In Part 1 of this two-part series we discussed how tradies can use Facebook to market products and services. Here in Part 2, we’ll get into building brand awareness. For the purposes of this article, we’ll define brand awareness as: How existing and potential customers view a business.

You may remember that Facebook is a social media platform, not an advertising platform. People use social media to improve their lives in some way, not to find stuff to buy. So it’s important that you give your Facebook business page visitors something they can use to improve their circumstances. That “something” comes in the form of content, or information.

The best kind of content
The best content is that which is relevant to your particular trade, or other loosely related trades. For example, a residential plumber could provide content about other residential building and remodeling topics like carpentry or electrical in addition to plumbing. But where do you get content? When most people think of providing content, they think of having to actually write the content themselves. Not true. Coming up with content is actually quite simple, and easy. Here are two frequently used ideas:

Share content from your blog, if you have one
If you have a blog about your particular trade, this is a great source of content to share on your Facebook business page. Every time you publish a post on your blog, you should link to it on Facebook. When you do, include a brief, well constructed tease with the link. This will increase the likelihood that people will click the link and read the content.

For a well constructed tease, apply the following rules:

  • Do not repeat the title. Posting the link will generate the title.
  • Make the first sentence short and unusual. This grabs attention.
  • Incorporate the word “you” at least once. Remember, it’s all about them.
  • Briefly describe a concern your reader might have. One short sentence should do the trick.
  • Briefly describe what the post covers. One short sentence is enough here too.
  • Briefly explain why the article is important. Again, one short sentence should suffice.

By the way, if you don’t already have a blog, you should seriously consider starting one.

Share content from the internet

Whether you have a blog or not, you can also share relevant content from the internet. It doesn’t matter what the topic, there is no shortage of content on the web. So, as you read about topics related to your trade and others, you can share worthwhile content with your Facebook followers. This helps you create and maintain a strong reputation as someone who is knowledgeable about the trades. And that is brand awareness. Remember, your  brand awareness is how existing and potential customers view your business.
