Tags
A Meta Tag is a line of code that is contained in the background of a web page and tells the search engines what your page is all about. Don’t worry if you know nothing about writing code. Most web editing programs allow you to edit the tags without any coding knowledge. Here are the three levels of tags and what they look like.
- Title – The page title as seen at the top of a web browser, and is also the main headline displayed in search engine results.
<title>Websites for Tradies</title>
- Description – A precise description of the page.
<meta name=”description” content=”We design mobile friendly websites for Tradesmen which help them generate leads.” />
- Keywords – Words that identify what the page is about. Keywords in meta tags are not shown in the search engine results.
<meta name=”keywords” content=”websites for tradies, build websites, websites for tradesmen in sydney, generate website traffic”>
Maps
An XML Sitemaps is a .xml file containing a listing of all your pages and when they were updated. HubSpot describes it as being like a subway map. It shows the structure of your website and where all your pages reside. You can locate map generators online, upload it to the root directory of your website (www.website.com/sitemap.xml), and remember to update it frequently.
There you have it. The 4 must haves for increasing your website traffic through proper SEO. If it seems a bit time-consuming, that’s because in order to stay current it must be constantly monitored and updated. Your time is better spent running your business.
